Contemporary dance performance

Expoimprochange
is a performing art program run by 2moveDC. The performers include dance students and music students from both Codarts and China. 2moveDC  is established by Miquel de Jong and Kevin Polak in 2006 in order to promote the work of Dutch choreographers.

They have reversed normal procedures in the dance world: instead of the choreographers choosing the dancers for a piece he or she created, Kevin and Miquel invite a choreographer to create a piece for them: a 10 – 15 minute duet for two men. Kevin and Miquel then film the rehearsals, interview the choreographer about his/her way of working and edit this into a short film which is shown before the work off the choreographer. The aim of these small films is that the audience finds recognition in the person as well as in the artist and as a result in its art and or creation.

Besides the short films, 2moveDC is also going to give workshops to dancers in Shanghai. They consider the Dutch Culture Centre as a place where each individual will exchange his own cultural background with the other in an open improvisation: no rules, no theme’s just their bodies as instruments to make a dance performance. Guided by light and music, as extra input in their exchange.
