王安忆是中国当代主要作家之一 。她是作家茹志鹃的女儿，1954年生于南京，1955年随母移居上海。她的初期创作多以亲历的知青生活为题材，之后，着重于描绘女性的生活。《长恨 歌》(1995年)被赞为她的杰作。这部长篇小说以女主角，前"上海小姐"坎坷的一生，怀旧地并带有讽刺意味地对上世纪四十至九十年代上海进行了描绘。王 安忆的中篇小说《小鲍庄》已有荷兰语译本(1990)。

Wang Anyi is regarded as one of the most important authors in China today. She was born in Nanjing in 1954 but in 1955 she moved to Shanghai, the city where her mother, Ru Zhijuan, also a writer, was born. At the start of her career she wrote mainly semi-autobiographical stories about the experiences of young people in the countryside; later she turned her attention to realistic descriptions of women's lives. Her novel The Everlasting Regret (1995) is seen as the highpoint of her work. Through the story of the tumultuous life of her central character, a former beauty queen, Wang Anyi paints a nostalgic and at the same time ironic portrait of Shanghai from the 1940s to the 1990s. Among books by Wang Anyi that have appeared in Dutch is the novel Baotown (Wereldvenster, 1990).
