The Nederlands Fotomuseum presents new positions within contemporary Dutch photography in Quickscan NL - New Photography from The Netherlands. The exhibition offers the Chinese audience a quick insight into contemporary Dutch photography. It contains a selection of young artists, who all experiment with the medium photography in a renewing way. Dutch photography is well known for its ground breaking and experimental character. The Netherlands has a rich artistic climate that is supported by the government and numerous  institutions such as museums, galleries, art  fairs and publishers. This situation provides visual artists, photographers, film makers, architects and designers with possibilities to explore new terrains and new forms of creation.

The exhibition includes works by Kim Boske, Kim Bouvy, Melanie Bonajo, Wytske van Keulen, Anouk Kruithof and by the artists’ collective Club Donny. This younger generation of photographers and artists benefits from a great degree of artistic freedom. They change the character of photography, examining what the medium means and mirroring the complex developments and challenges in a globalising society. In an ever fast changing world, the artists in Quickscan NL provide us with new ways of looking at the world. Often, their work is puzzling and mind-provoking. The photographs they make, mirror the complex developments and challenges in a globalising society. They address issues like psychological stress, the inhuman character of the urban environment, the shifting boundaries between nature and culture, and the personal experience of history. Due to the impact of photo-editing software, the photographic image has permanently lost its status as a reliable representation of reality for these artists. One of the results of this major paradigm-shift is a feeling of great artistic freedom both in digital and analogue photography.
