Toneelgroep De Appel/Appeltheater
Toneelgroep De Appel is the most important company in the Netherlands when it comes to special and largely assembled theatre productions, both at home and abroad. Concerning artistic appearance and appeal to the public, it is impossible to imagine the Dutch theatre scenery without De Appel.
Most of the performances are staged in the group’s own Appeltheater. A unique building that each time provides a surprise to the audience; making them imagine themselves to be in a completely new surrounding. However, Toneelgroep De Appel is more than just a building. De Appel also performs at other special locations, such as on the beach of Scheveningen, on the Frisian island Terschelling or in Cape Town.
An excellent ensemble of actors - in which all generations are represented - form the core of the company; all this under the guidance of Aus Greidanus. Aus Greidanus, David Geysen, Geert de Jong and guest directors, carry out directions.

The ensemble
In the Dutch theatre scenery a close-knit ensemble has become a rare phenomenon. For De Appel the ensemble is of vital importance. This means that in choosing our repertoire, we always try to provide an optimal cast for our own ensemble. However, always under the condition that the group of actors is willing to keep on developing and to show creativity.
Guest actors are of course invited for practically every production; either because there are too many parts for our own ensemble to perform, or because a part might demand a specific quality.
