A Dancers’ life, live at the Dutch Culture Centre

Six dancers, one harpist and projection works made this weekends’ performance ‘A Dancers’ life’ unique!

Invited by Korzo Productions, three young talented Dutch choreographers presented their work in Shanghai at the Dutch Culture Centre. As a part of ‘Here we live and now’ the choreographers were invited to create new works and present this in a full-length programme ‘A Dancers’ Life’. Friday and Saturday this work was show to the Chinese public. With a total of 330 visitors over two evenings the DCC theatre was packed!

Kenneth Flak kicked of with ‘God Studies’. Before his dance performance, Flak shortly introduced the mythology of his Norse gods he used for this piece: Odin, god of war and wisdom, Thor, god of thunder and Loke, god of mischief. The choreography showed the brutal, violent and beautiful universe of these Viking gods. The combination of yoga and martial arts in a dance piece, create a wonderful experience.

Before the intermission the choreographer David Middendorp presented his stunning work ‘15 minutes universe’. The performance started of with a short playful preparation to the dance performance, putting the harp in its place and switching on the additional lighting. The performance was a combination of dance, live harp music and projection art. David played with the concept of time. He used the images of stars to emphasize how we look at stars and by that we would go back millions of years in time. In this sens ‘now’ means partially the past. The two dancers moved to the sounds of a harp, played by Astrid Haring. By using also projection art on the harp, it almost became an extended part of the dance performance.

After the intermission the choreography by Joeri Dubbe was performed. Prospect Future showed a dance on the themes fear and uncertainties in communication between others. Using light, and a remarkable stage setting a whole new atmosphere was created. Playing with colors Dubbe let the dancers’ movements fuse with the cold and warm environment created by light and décor.
