Netherlands China Arts Foundation
The Netherlands China Arts Foundation (NCAF) was established in late 2006 to stimulate and shape cultural exchange between China and the Netherlands. The foundation will draw up a programme of activities aimed at forming networks between new, young, artistically interesting cultural organisations in China and the Netherlands. Network activities may include: cultural exchanges, co productions and presentations, research trips, expert meetings, workshops, artist-in-residence programmes, etc.
Furthermore, the foundation will promote cultural profiling for both countries, by way of encouraging and supporting large-scale, multidisciplinary events. Special focus years will be 2008 / 2009 (around the Olympic Games in Beijing) and 2010 (world exhibition in Shanghai).
The foundation will also be able to advise about setting up activities in either country by making available experiences and contacts of the foundation itself and partner organisations. The activities of the foundation will follow Dutch international cultural policy and will involve Dutch funds and institutes, the Dutch diplomatic posts in China and partners in China.
The Dutch ministry of Education, Culture and Science has asked the Netherlands China Arts Foundation to make a plan for a cultural programme around the Dutch entry of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The foundation will try to devise a cultural programme not only at the Dutch pavilion and on the Expo site, but also in venues in Shanghai and elsewhere in China.
The NCAF operates under intendant Martijn Sander. SICA will do the secretarial work for the foundation and vice director Beate Gerlings is the business manager.
Ellen Adriaanse is coordinating the foundation as a project leader. Furthermore SICA is providing publicity, financial activities, and project assistance.
Monique Knapen, has been assigned to the coordinate this cultural programme in close collaboration with director Martijn Sanders.
