Tow bar needed / Second-hand music: Utrecht at the Opera
In January 2010, Tjerk Ridder, accompanied by his dachshund Dachs and his guitar, left in a conspicuous ‘Utrecht caravan’ and without a car. He travelled through Europe, where he requires assistance from ‘haulers’, who literally help him on his way. During the DCC programme, Tjerk will be a special guest, presenting all his experiences and interchanges, set in text and music. He will also perform his Cathedral City song. How that will sound in Chinese…
After the intermission the programme continues with Second-hand music: Utrecht at the Opera, a concert, a lecture and a demonstration all in one. Pianist Rian de Waal takes the audience back in time, to the 19th century, when the world became acquainted with the operas of Verdi, Bellini, Rossini, Gounod and Wagner for the first time. Not just in the concert halls, but also in paraphrases by composers like Franz Liszt and in arrangements for music boxes, the I-pod’s of the 19th century.
