The Japanese term ´Pecha Kucha´ roughly translates as chit-chat or irritating chatter. As a happy crossbreed between an elevator pitch and a slide show, Pecha Kucha Night will present around 12 creative minds that will show 20 images for 20 seconds each. Pecha Kucha Night offers the audience the experience of a dazzling range of speakers and images in the course of one evening. Breaks will be filled with drinks, music, images, and off course: chit-chat (so bring your business cards). Pecha Kucha Night is for designers, architects, photographers, architects, interior designers, graphical designers, game designers, artists, fashion designers, inventors, creative students or anyone else with ideas the world needs to know about. If you want to present a new building, furniture, book, add campaign, fashion line, gadgets or any other idea or design come and share it with us.
Pecha Kucha Night was devised in Tokyo by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Pecha Kucha Night has a global website where you can read more about its history.
FAR architecture and design center has been organising Pecha Kucha nights in Shanghai since 2006. The events take place all over the city in exciting new creative hotspots, ranging from art galleries to abandoned warehouses. Pecha Kucha Night is a non-profit event, organised with the help of a growing number of enthousiastic volunteers and sponsors. Pecha Kucha Shanghai has no theme; it sticks to the original format of ´mix to the max´. Show your design work, share your adventures in China or present your future vision on the metropolis we live in. Anything goes as long as it is a creative story with nice images. So if you happen to be in town, this is the time to show your (creative) thing. Get ready to speak up! If you want to do a presentation at Pecha Kucha Night email to pksh@far-china.net.
