A string concert by Dutch string quartet Matangi.

The Matangi Quartet is a classical string quartet and considered one of the top players in the Dutch chamber music scene. With their impassioned playing and smart presentation they epitomise a new generation of classical musicians. They are often characterised by words such as communicative, provocative and refreshingly versatile.

The Matangi Quartet:
Maria-Paula Majoor - violin
Daniel Torrico Menacho - violin
Karsten Kleijer - viola
Arno van der Vuurst - cello

The Matangi Quartet has shared the stage with various top-class classical musicians and has performed in various festivals and concert series. In 2002 Matangi was awarded the prestigious Kersjes van de Groenekan Award, an annual prize awarded to exceptional chamber music talent in the Netherlands. In 2008 the quartet won third prize at the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar.

Matangi regularly participates in innovative crossover projects and has performed in collaboration with artists such as cabaretiers, bandoneon player, jazz trumpeter and DJ. These pioneering excursions beyond the borders of classical music have resulted in Matangi winning an enthusiastic new public for the string quartet.

The Matangi Quartet will also perform together with DJ Kypski (from C-mon and Kypski) in the Double Dutch programme. During this double concert at the Dutch Culture Centre the adventurous versatility of the Matangi Quartet can be explored to the maximum. Read more about Double Dutch
