Double Dutch
Double Dutch is a programme of two concerts. The first one (starting at 19.30) is by the Matangi Quartet and contains classical string quartet highlights. The second concert (starting at 22.00) is an adventurous cross-over performance by the Matangi Quartet and Dutch DJ Kypski (Of C-Mon & Kypski). The Matangi Quartet is a classical string quartet and considered one of the top players in the Dutch chamber music scene. With their impassioned playing and smart presentation, Maria-Paula, Daniel, Karsten and Arno epitomise a new generation of classical musicians. They are often characterised by words such as communicative, provocative and refreshingly versatile. The Matangi Quartet has shared the stage with various top-class classical musicians and is also renowned for their innovative crossover projects. These pioneering excursions beyond the borders of classical music have resulted in Matangi winning an enthusiastic new public for the string quartet.
During this double concert at the Dutch Culture Centre the adventurous versatility of the Matangi Quartet can be explored to the maximum. The evening will start with some of the most beautiful string quartet music from the classical repertoire. The programme will consist of String Quartet opus 20 no.4 (Joseph Haydn), String Quartet no.1 (Felix Mendelssohn) and the spectacular Dutch composition Bats from Hell (Chiel Meijering). This last composition was written especially for Matangi in 2003. For the eclectic music lover the late-night concert will be a feast! Matangi joins musical forces with DJ Kypski, known from the internationally acclaimed eclectic visionaries C-Mon & Kypski and one of the most original talents of Dutch pop music today. This concert will be an adventurous mix of classical pieces by Mozart, Haydn, Thomas Ades, Vladimir Godar and other composers scratched together with music of the latest C-Mon & Kypski CDWe Are Square.
