Amsterdam Urban Dance Show 2010
For the occasion of the World Expo Shanghai 2010 all manner of artistic and cultural activities are organised during six months in the Dutch Cultural Centre DCC in the old part of Shanghai. Amsterdam will also make a contribution and, on request of the Amsterdam city council, the JAM Foundation will produce a dance show with around twenty young Amsterdam dance talents, both professionals and burgeoning talents.
Young dance talents from a multicultural city, with the contribution of their own culture, seems to us an ideal way to create our distinct profile in China. There will also be further links with Chinese culture.
The JAM Foundation has established a very close relationship with China over the past years.
We have organised tours with, among others, the Women Symphony Orchestra of China (as part of the cultural treaty between China and Amsterdam), several Chinese dance and music performances for the Floriade in Haarlemermeer and the city council day in Amsterdam, a photo exposition of the great wall in the town hall of Amsterdam, and a folkloristic dance group in cooperation with the Chinese embassy in The Hague.
For the season of 2011-2012 a grand tour is planned through the Netherlands by 35 members of the Beijing Opera Group, part of the Beijing Opera Academy from Beijing in cooperation with the Opera Nu foundation and the Chamber Opera festival in Zwolle.
