Dance by young choreographers from the Netherlands
To develop talents of young choreographers and present them to the audience, Korzo organizes several events and activities. One of these events is 'Here we live and now', where Korzo invites dance makers from The Hague to create new work and to present this work in a full-length programme. Two productions from the 2009 edition of 'Here we live and now' will be presented on the World Expo: Joeri Dubbe with 'Prospect Future' and David Middendorp '15 minutes universe'.
Kenneth Flak - workshop Dance composition
(English - for professional dance field)
Tuesday July 13 /// 10:00 - 13:00 hrs.
Saturday July 17 /// 13:00 – 16:00 hrs.
God Studies #3 by Kenneth Flak was presented at another dance event from Korzo 'Voorjaarsontwaken' in 2008 and is the last in a movement study for the evening-length performance 'Of Gods And Driftwood'. The solo is a dialogue with gods from the Norse mythology: Odin, god of war and wisdom, Thor, god of thunder and Loke, god of mischief. The universe of these Viking gods is brutal, violent and beautiful at the same time: the only thing that matters is survival, and, where survival is no longer possible, to die in style. What does these characters represent for contemporary man?
Workshop dance composition (for professionals and advanced dancers / choreographers)
The aim of the workshop is to give the participants practical knowledge and tools for creating their own choreographies. The workshop will explore different methods of creating and organizing movement material, individually and in groups. We will be working with both imagery-based as well as more abstract approaches, and try to find ways that both of these approaches can feed into each other.
Joeri Dubbe – contemporary dance - repertory
(English - for professional dance field)
Tuesday July 13 /// 19:00 - 21:00 hrs.
Saturday July 17 /// 10:00 – 12:30 hrs.
Prospect Future by Joeri Dubbe is a performance by three dancers. It deals with the fears and uncertainties that someone can experience in it’s communication with others. The movements fuse with cold and warm sounds, light and set design.
Workshop contemporary dance - repertory (for professionals and advanced dancers)
The contemporary dance workshop will be based on the most recent choreographies of Joeri Dubbe, among which the work 'Prospect Future' that will be shown in the programme of Korzo Productions at the DCC on 16th and 17th of July. His movement style is eclectic and at the same time inspired by the work of world famous choreographers like Jiří Kylián and Ohad Naharin, and by young choreographers like Kenzo Kusuda who belong to the Dutch freelance dance scene. Joeri’s style can be described as raw, energetic and grounded and has an important focus on musicality.
David Middendorp – lecture demonstration computer animation and dance composition
(English )
Saturday July 17 /// 16:00 – 17:30 hrs.
For 15 minute universe, David Middendorp sought inspiration in the phenomenon of 'time'. All that we do, think and make is related to time, and yet time is also intangible. To look at the person next to you, light only needs the merest fraction of a second to reach the eye. When we look at the stars we go back millions of years in time. The moment we experience as 'now' is actually partially in the past. The dance merges with video animations and live music with harpist Astrid Haring.
lecture demonstration computer animation and dance composition
The work of David Middendorp is an ingenious combination of dance and technology and specifically computer animation. Dancers on stage are challenged by characters or objects in the form of a computer animation and vice-versa. The result is a fascinating interplay of silhouettes in which the human body and computer techniques create a surrealistic world. David Middendorp is specialised in choreography as well as in computer animation. Therefore he is not only creating the choreography, but also the animations for his pieces. Supported by video-fragments, he will talk about both disciplines and how they can interact.
